This 2 and a half day conference is bringing together some of the most reknown educators and technologists to begin the process of changing the way we think about education. It is more than just putting laptops out for our 7th graders, it is about empowering the classroom, the teachers, and the students to do things in ways they had never thought possible, to literally open up the world for them. Seymour Papert, author of the book 'Mindstorms - Children, Computers, and Powerful Ideas' is one of the program chairs and will be speaking about the Maine vision. Alan Kay, the first person to visualize a laptop and the developer of the GUI (graphical user interface) will also be speaking. Governor Angus King will be attending the conference and time permitting will speak on the Maine Initiative. Plus many other national and international speakers who have lead the frontier for the 1-to-1 computer environment in education.
