Good Idea Grant
The Good Idea Grant program is designed to assist in supporting and fostering the growth of Maine’s artists. The parameters of the grant are purposefully broad. They include any “good idea” that furthers an individual artist’s creative endeavor(s). The grants are intended to assist artists in overcoming a wide range of obstacles in their professional lives. Because the Maine Arts Commission is dedicated to fostering a rich cultural life in the state and views the support of artist-originated projects to be fundamental to such cultural life, these grants do not have to be sponsored by organizations. Rather, grants will be awarded to individuals on the basis of strong narratives which clearly illustrate the usefulness of the grants in furthering artists' offerings to the public, sustaining their creative life and contributing concretely to Maine’s Creative Economy.
Use: Any artist who: * has a valid Maine address as a full or part-time resident of the state, * is 18 years of age or older at the time of application, * is not enrolled as a full-time student in a field related to the application, * has resided in Maine for a minimum of one year at the time of the application and * has completed and filed all final reports required for previous Maine Arts Commission grants. Recipients of Good Idea Grants may only apply to the Good Idea Grant program once per fiscal year. Artists who apply and do not receive a Good Idea Grant may apply to the program more than once in a fiscal year, as long as the proposal is received by the Maine Arts Commission at least 30 days prior to the start date of the creative project or initiative.
