The Maine Development Foundation (MDF) is an independent, nonprofit corporation created in 1978 by the legislature with a broad mandate to promote the Maine economy. The foundation's vision is a high quality of life for all Maine citizens. Acheiving this requires a vibrant and sustainable economy supported by vital communities and a healthy environment. MDF's mission is to drive sustainable, long-term economic growth for Maine. We achieve this mission by empowering leaders, informing and guiding public policy, and strengthening communities. MDF is a catalyst that moves ideas into action. We build the state's leadership capacity, advocate new approaches to solve problems, and provide a trusted, nonpartisan common ground for public and private leaders. The foundation is the oldest and one of the most successful statewide public-private partnerships in the nation.
