Kennebec Valley Community College

  Updated: 02/15/2007

Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC), one of seven colleges in the Maine Community College System, is a commuter college located on a sixty-acre campus in central Maine. KVCC was organized in 1969 by the 104th Maine Legislature and first classes began in the fall of 1970 with 35 full-time and 131 part-time students. Since then, KVCC has gone through many changes and has grown to an enrollment of 1,772 full- and part-time students pursuing credit courses last year (2004-2005). In addition, non-credit enrollment and contract training enhanced KVCC's enrollment by approximately 1,043 students. Two years after becoming a community college (in 2003), KVCC retains its reputation for providing training that quickly leads to good jobs in the area. The College is increasingly becoming a stepping stone to four-year degrees for recent high school graduates and others wanting to test the waters of college without taking on a heavy financial burden. KVCC ensures student success by providing a wide range of support services (see below). Class sizes are small, and faculty and students enjoy a safe and friendly environment not found on many larger campuses. Students can also take advantage of many extracurricular activities, from clubs and intramural sports to speakers on timely topics and concerts. A campus fitness center is open to all students. The College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. and offers 24 full-time associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs. In addition, KVCC offers a comprehensive schedule of continuing education courses and business and industry programs. KVCC provides an affordable, quality education and expanding opportunities to transfer credit to four-year colleges and universities that is second to none in central Maine.
