The Maine Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources is the State's lead agency dealing with all aspects of the food system from the field to the table.
USDA serves all Americans, those who farm as well as everyone who eats, wears clothes, lives in a house, or visits a rural area or a national forest.
The University of Maine Cooperative Extension (UMCE) is part of the Cooperative Extension System, a publicly funded educational network. This network is composed of the United States Department of Agriculture Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, land-grant institutions and numerous counties. UMCE brings educational resources from UMaine to Maine's local communities.
NRCS is the lead conservation agency for the USDA. NRCS in Maine provides leadership and technical assistance to address natural resource conservation issues on Maine private land.

The USDA crop insurance program, which is administered by the Risk Management Agency (RMA), helps farmers survive a major crop loss. About two-thirds of the acreage planted to major U.S. crops is insured, and more than 76 crops and many of their varieties are insurable. Crop insurance is widely available for major commodities such as corn, wheat, soybeans, and cotton. Coverage is also available on a growing number of fruits, nuts, and vegetable crops.
Maine Farm Service Agency Online FSA assures the well-being of American agriculture, the environment and the American public through efficient and equitable administration of farm commodity programs; farm ownership, operating and emergency loans; conservation and environmental programs; emergency and disaster assistance; domestic and international food assistance and international export credit programs.
The Maine Agricultural Center coordinates and expands research and educational services provided to Maine agriculture by the UMaine System.
